Information on the Local Area
In the 1700’s, due to its need for cotton, Atlanta built a railroad to the town of Waxhaw. The rail line is still active today. The downtown district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the historic buildings house antique shops, specialty stores and restaurants. Festivals include the 4th of July parade, Autumn Treasures, Scottish Games and Senior Citizens Christmas Party. Cane Creek Park is 1,050 acres of public land surrounding a 350 acre trophy bass lake.
