Woodside Debuts its Newest Dining Venue: The Village Café

At Woodside, thanks to the wide array of community amenities, you can achieve your ideal lifestyle no matter what tops your wish list. With parks, walking and biking trails, golf courses, tennis and pickleball courts, dining venues and so much more, you’ll find what you’re looking for here.

With the grand opening of Woodside’s newest community restaurant, The Village Café, the community strengthens its commitment to present and future Woodside residents by offering the very best in convenience, quality, and variety.

The Village Café, conveniently located in The Village at Woodside, rests among the beautifully landscaped parks, bocce courts, restaurants, spa, fitness center and more already located there. Their internationally-inspired menu is all locally-sourced, and with options like the Norwegian Smoked Salmon BLT and deliciously authentic Italian gelato, combines worldwide cuisine with an appreciation for all things Aiken.

The Village Café proudly offers freshly prepared “grab and go” breakfast and lunch options, a variety of soups and salads, an array of specialty coffees and teas, and much more. Whether you’re looking for a delicious latte and breakfast pastry to start your day, a light and refreshing salad for a midday boost of energy, or a glass of wine and delicious dinner for date night, you’ll find it here.

The Village Café has been a quick hit with Woodside residents and Aiken locals alike since its opening; however, that popularity has skyrocketed following a rave review from popular culinary guide Roadfood.com.

“Roadfood means great regional meals along highways, in small towns and in city neighborhoods. It is sleeves-up fare made by cooks, bakers, pitmasters, and sandwich-makers who are America’s culinary folk artists. Roadfood restaurants are almost always casual and affordable. They are diners, small-town cafes, seaside shacks, drive-ins, barbecues, and bake shops. The best of them are colorful places enjoyed by locals (and savvy travelers) for their character as well as their menu.” -Roadfood.com

Roadfood.com’s thoughts on The Village Café?

“Just outside an entrance to the plush gated community of Woodside, The Village Café is a casual restaurant that is anything but casual about what it serves. Here is some very interesting food. The sandwich selection, for example, includes not just a regular BLT, but a smoked salmon BLT. Silky ribbons of tender pink Norwegian salmon are added to the winning combo of bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise (lemon-dill mayo) and served on multi-grain toast. Luxury incarnate!”

and…

“Sophisticated as the food is at The Village Café, its way of doing business is country-casual. Place your order and pay at the counter, where you are given a number to take to a table or to a sunny counter seat by the window to which staff brings the meal.”

The Avalon at Brunswick Forest

The Avalon floorplan available at Brunswick Forest is a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home with just over 2,200 sq. ft. of living area. You can also add a 2nd floor bonus room bringing the grand total to 3,432 sq. ft. living area.

A signature front porch with a handsome attached gazebo creates a unique calling card for the Avalon. Its features recall traditional Southern homes of eras gone by, but its livability is completely up to date.

As you step into the foyer one of the first rooms you’ll see is the study which has this neat little bar area…

Continuing on into the Avalon, you’ll come to the family room…

Beyond the family room there you can see the elegantly appointed kitchen…

The first floor also features this guest bedroom…

And a generously sized Master bedroom…

The master bathroom features separate his and her sinks, and a large tiled shower…

For some people, that might be all you need, but for others who want even more space, you can add the bonus room to the 2nd floor.

That would give you space to do something like this man cave…

Here it is from another angle…

Adding the 2nd floor also gives you room for another guest room as seen here…

People love the Avalon because of the flexibility it allows, especially the ability to either add or forgo the 2nd story.

Would You Retire in a Tiny House?

The list of shows to come out about Tiny Houses in the last few years is nearly endless.

You’ve got Tiny House Nation. Tiny House Hunters. Tiny House Builders. Tiny House, Big Living. Tiny Luxury. Tiny World.

The list goes on and on.

But would you retire in a Tiny House?

For some retirees, the whole idea of a tiny house is ridiculous.

But for others looking to downsize in a serious way, a Tiny House makes perfect sense for retirement living.

The Coves Mountain River Club, a spectacular master-planned and gated community in Western North Carolina, is making a Tiny House retirement a viable option.

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, The Coves Mountain River Club currently has four Tiny House plans available to choose from ranging in size from 578 to 740 sq. ft.

The smallest plan, “Daddy’s Dog House”, has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath and the biggest plan, “Tree House”, has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

My favorites, however, happen to be the two in the middle, both with 740 square feet.

The first is called “Mamma’s Play House”, which has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms:

The second is called “The Weekender”, which has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Check out this awesome kitchen in The Weekender:

The Kitchen in “The Weekender”

Looking at that picture, you’d never guess that kitchen is in a Tiny House.

If Tiny Houses aren’t your thing, don’t worry, they have regular size houses too.

Far from being a resort community or weekend getaway, The Coves is loaded with built-out amenities designed for 365 days of activities and events. Active adults can take advantage of the beautiful natural environment while enjoying a full social calendar of gatherings with other like-minded residents. Walk along gentle mountain paths, challenge yourself with a high-country hike or Kayak 5 miles of the Johns River without ever leaving the community. Spend a morning in the garden and then attend a community barbecue or concert that evening. Rejuvenate yourself in our state of the art fitness center. While away a winter afternoon in our library, or spend lazy summer days on horseback. With such a wide array of homesites to choose from, it’s easy to pick your perfect getaway.

The Top-Selling Carolina Communities of 2017

Three Carolina communities made the list of the 50 Top-Selling Master-Planned Communities of 2017.

That’s according to John Burns Real Estate Consulting who researches and compiles the list each year.

The #1 community on the list, The Villages in Florida, sold a whopping 2,231 new homes in 2017!

The Carolina communities that made the list did not sell nearly as many as that, but let’s take closer look at the ones that made the list and see how they fared.

Cane Bay Plantation (Charleston, SC) – #13 Overall, #1 in the Carolinas

With 584 new home sales last year, Cane Bay Plantation is a well established and growing community nestled in the heart of South Carolina’s Berkeley County – the fastest growing county in the state.

There are a number of builders to choose from in Cane Bay Plantation and a variety of neighborhoods as well.

Brunswick Forest (Wilmington, NC) – #33 Overall, #2 in the Carolinas

A longtime featured community on this site, the builders at Brunswick Forest recorded 395 new home sales in 2017.

Brunswick Forest has a wealth of amenities in place for residents to enjoy today, such as a top-rated golf course and some of the most diverse real estate offerings in eastern North Carolina.

Berewick (Charlotte, NC) – #38 Overall, #3 in the Carolinas

With 367 new homes sold in 2017, the focus at Berewick is on Family living.

Like most master-planned communities there are a variety of builders to choose from, but the main attractions are the community’s amenities, walking space, and green space. There’s even an elementary school within the community.

I always like remind people to keep in mind that “top-selling” does not always mean “best”.

Finding the best community for you is a very personal decision that you can only come to after plenty of research and time spent visiting a number of communities that seem like they may be a fit.

In addition to the above communities, be sure to check out the many Featured Communities on our site.

Also, if you are interested in communities in other states, you can see the entire top 50 list here.
